Welcome Oregon FBI National Academy Members,
Thank you for the opportunity to serve as this year's President for the Oregon Chapter of the FBI National Academy Associates. I am honored to have been elected to this position and I appreciate the opportunity to serve you. We have an excellent Executive Board and great partners with the Oregon FBI with whom I will work diligently to fulfill our mission as we continue to provide professional growth, networking and social opportunities for our members in 2011.
The other 2011 Executive Board members are:
First Vice President: Captain David O'Shaughnessy – Clackamas County Sheriff's Office
Second Vice President: Captain Jim de Sully – Tigard Police Department
Secretary/Treasurer: Greg Olson – Marion County Sheriff's Office (Retired)
Immediate Past President: Lieutenant John Schmerber – Hillsboro Police Department
The Executive Board is in the process of finalizing our 2011 events calendar. While many events have been scheduled we are still working to confirm the dates and locations for our Spring Training and Spring Golf & Social with emphasis being placed on making both of these events affordable and enjoyable for all of our members to attend. Our organization had great success in 2010 with the number of attendees setting records at these events and I would like to see this trend continue in 2011. You can access the most current information using the "Training & Socials" link at the header of this page.
Over the past couple of years we have had success at both the national and chapter level that has allowed us to communicate and share information with our members more efficiently and effectively; however we still have members who prefer to receive information from our chapter with personal mailings so we will continue to share chapter information using every available resource so as not to leave anyone out. I would encourage each of you to visit the national webpage at www.fbinaa.org and continue to visit this site for the most up-to-date information.
I am excited to announce this year our chapter will be sending two candidates to the 14th session of the Youth Leadership Program that will be held at the FBI Academy June 22nd – 30th. The Executive Board received confirmation the Oregon Chapter secured two slots when we attended the Section One meeting last November. Immediate Past President Lieutenant John Schmerber lobbied other Section One representatives and was successful in securing the second slot for Oregon this year. I expect the number of candidates who apply for these positions to increase dramatically and for the competition to be very competitive.
Captain Jim de Sully from the Tigard Police Department, our newly elected Second Vice President, is conducting the selection process. Applications are available now and will be due by March 11th. Captain Jim de Sully can be contacted at jdesully@tigard-or.gov if you would like an application or if you are interested in assisting him with the selection process. Additional information can be found under the Important Links header and "Important Forms" link on this page.
Again, I am honored to serve each of you along with our Executive Board and partners from the Oregon FBI. Please feel free to contact any of us with questions, comments or suggestions you might have for the Oregon Chapter. We are always trying to improve. Your participation at chapter events and the input you provide is very important to our continued success. I look forward to seeing all of you this year.
Sincerely,
Jeffrey K. Kuhns, President
